In response to the questions asked, the victims stated that they were involved in theft and had protection from local authorities. Prior to the discovery of six lifeless bodies in the municipality of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, a video was circulated on social media showing an armed group interrogating the victims before their execution.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that in the early hours of August 5th, 12 plastic bags containing human remains were found in the Pueblo Nuevo and La Fundición neighborhoods.

Based on the investigations conducted by the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), it was determined that the remains corresponded to six men who, according to the official narrative of the Michoacán authorities, had been ‘mutilated.’

The circulated video shows six shirtless men kneeling outdoors. Behind them stood eight armed individuals with their faces covered. One of the hooded figures conducted the interrogation of the victims. In response to the questions asked, the victims revealed that they were involved in ‘theft’ and operated under the alleged protection of an individual identified as ‘El Güero Conrado,’ who is presumed to be a member of the Michoacán State Public Security Secretariat (SSP).

According to the audio from the video, the interrogation unfolded as follows:

– What do you do for a living?

– We steal.

– Who do you steal for?

– For ‘El Güero Conrado.’

– What are you instructed to steal?

– Anything we find on the streets.

– What kind of protection does he provide?

– When we get arrested, he’ll bail us out.

– How long ago did you start stealing again?

– Two days ago, when ‘El Güero Conrado’ returned. He won’t leave us alone and forced us back into stealing.

– Who supplies you with ‘ice’ (methamphetamine)?

– ‘El Güero Conrado’ gives us 50% of what we provide.

After the last response, the armed individuals activated their firearms and shot the six men in the head. It is presumed that these victims are the ones found in Zitácuaro early on Monday due to the narcomessages displayed in the municipality.

Through banners, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) warned that these actions were carried out due to Conrado’s involvement, accusing him of ordering robberies in the region. The message, signed by the ‘Special Forces of Mr. Mencho’—referring to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, the CJNG leader—reads: ‘This is happening because Conrado has been stealing people for himself, and we are neither toys nor clowns… Now we’re going all out against the Civil Guard. You want war? You’ll get it.’

Unofficially, the murders may be related to the criminal activities of William Edwin Rivera Padilla, alias ‘El Barbas,’ an operator within the criminal organization.

Conrado Corral Leyva, head of the Zitácuaro District Police (affiliated with the SSP), has been mentioned in other narcomessages in Zitácuaro, but so far, he has not commented on the matter.

In response to the discovery of the six mutilated men, the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation to clarify the events, as there are no records of detained individuals. The only information available is that the victims (who remain unidentified) had injuries caused by sharp objects and gunshot wounds.
