Since Wednesday, April 3, the CJNG has taken three communities and kept the town of Coahuayana under siege, where hundreds of people have taken refuge, who claim that the bombs cause suffocation. Terrified residents demand the expulsion of criminal groups.
The Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel broke into at least three communities in Coahuayana last Wednesday, April 3, and has until now surrounded the head of this municipality, located on the border of Michoacan and Colima, and now converted into a refuge for hundreds of people displaced by the violence of this and other criminal groups, using explosives, and chemical substances dropped by drones.
According to the municipal president Gildardo Ruiz Velázquez, as well as the testimonies of residents, the CJNG resorted not only to the use of heavy-caliber weapons but also using drones that launch explosives with chemical substances that cause damage to people (itching and stinging in the respiratory system, and in some cases, a feeling of suffocation) and that could mean the escalation of arms and weaponry in this region, warned the Apatzingán Human Security Observatory, based in the state of Michoacan.

The organization indicated that the alarm is spreading due to the reported effects of the substances launched by the drones in this massive incursion by the CJNG and that it describes it as “one more step in the bellicose escalation of this conflict, and that it has become an arms race” between the organized crime groups that seek to control these territories, one of them Jalisco Nueva Generación and the other La Familia Michoacana, among others.
Inhabitants and displaced population of this municipality, as well as of Chinicuila and Ostula, reported that hundreds of CJNG hitmen entered and “took over” the communities of Palos Marías, El Órgano, and Zapotán in the early hours of Wednesday, April 3rd, terrorizing the residents and forcing to the forced displacement of dozens of citizens.
